The Forgotten Goddess of India
When the Primordial Goddess was once jolted awake only to find herself abandoned by her children
When Baņkim Chaņdra Chațțopādhyāya, the great Bengali poet, penned down the poem 'Vańde Mātaram' in his awe-inspiring novel 'Ānańdamațha', little did he know that his words would transcend time and space, becoming a rallying cry for a nation yearning for selfdom. The song eulogizes and invokes the Great Mother Goddess as the embodiment of the soul of Bhārat in the context of the Sanyāsī Rebellion of 1770s; the first true organized resistance against the British East India Company.
